Now that we've had a peek at some actual screens from New LovePlus+ (due out next year), I thought it might be fun to do a side-by-side comparison with the original LovePlus game - which by now deserves to be called something like "LovePlus Classic".
If you think the layout of the new screens feels kinda familiar...well, you'd be right. New LovePlus changed everything around with a complicated (and rather sterile-looking) system of folder icons, and it felt very different from the first incarnation of the game. Partly this was because of the need for a screen that could be rotated to both vertical and horizontal formats. For New LovePlus+, the designers seem to have gone right back to the very first menu layout (just adding a few extra icons for the new stuff). And there's no need to turn the screen this time, either.
That's LovePlus on the left and New LovePlus+ on the right. You will see that the top three icons for Diary, Email and Phone are in identical places on the menu screen. The icons have just been rounded off a bit (rather like IOS7 icons ^^). The retro phone handset is an interesting replacement for the clunky 90s-looking cellphone of the original, but everything else is basically identical.
Below that are the smaller icons. Calendar, Internet and Map icons are in the same locations and do the same things, only the icon for the Map now looks a lot like Google Maps. The Briefcase icon seems to have been replaced by a Clipboard (appealing a bit more to young executives, perhaps?)
The last four icons on the new game menu would appear to be for Settings, Mini-Games, I'm guessing the third one is a Photo Album, and Save.
